Why do I walk?
Each of us has his or her own story as to why we participate in The Walk to Defeat ALS. Ultimately, it’s for the same reason: someone close to us--someone whom we love--has ALS and we will do whatever we can for them. For me that person was Laurie Lupien. Laurie was much more than just my friend; she was a sister.
Laurie was diagnosed with ALS in 2018. It’s very difficult to express the emotions felt being a witness to what this disease had done to her. It was both heartbreaking and heartwarming to see how she dealt with the challenges forced upon her by ALS. Most people would probably have given up, however, not Laurie. She was determined to fight and do all she could to meet those challenges!
Sadly, ALS proved to be a much stronger adversary, as Laurie lost her hard-fought battle in May of 2020.
By participating in the Walk, we are helping to bring awareness of this disease; by donating to the Walk, we are enabling the Association to improve the lives of people in Georgia living with ALS.
So, I'm asking that you PLEASE find it in your hearts to donate in Laurie’s memory. (No dollar amount is considered too small; each one can make a difference.)
Which brings me back to the question: "why do I walk?" I walk for Laurie--love you and miss you honey!
