Donors Making a Difference
At The ALS Association each donor is special no matter how much he or she gives. We are thankful for every donation, but sometimes, supporters go above and beyond the call of duty. Whether it is a young child organizing a fundraiser in his elementary school, or a research fund that reaches the $1 million dollar mark, the following stories represent the spirit and dedication of our supporters here in Georgia who have joined in partnership with The ALS Association.

MillerCoors donated $32,600
through their in-store promotion at Georgia Kroger stores.  The promotion, which ran during the month of April, donated 50 cents for every purchase of Miller Lite, Miller Genuine Draft and MGD 64.  This brings MillerCoors donation to over $130,000 since 2006.

Coach Rocket and the students at Waycross Cheer and Dance raised over $5,000 for the ALS Association in memory of David Wall during their annual cartwheel-athon. Kylie Hatton, a 4 yr. old gymnast, went to her local hospital and did Cartwheels until she raised over $850.00.

Walk with the Wind in Honor of Jim Dowd raises over $1,000 at their one mile walk in Jonesboro to raise funds for ALS Association Research. The event was hosted by a group from the Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County.

The DeFrancis Dodgers were our highest fundraising team for the 2009 Walk to Defeat ALS seaon raising over $33,000 in support of Art DeFrancis who lost his battle with ALS 14 years ago.  This was their first Walk to Defeat ALS!

Iron Horse Society

Lou Gehrig, or the “Iron Horse” as he is affectionately called, is chiefly remembered for his prowess as a hitter and his durability over a fifteen-season span.   During his career, Gehrig played in 2,130 consecutive games and set several major league records.  Sadly, Gehrig’s consecutive game streak ended when Gehrig became disabled by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Lou Gehrig’s legacy has inspired the ALS Association of Georgia to create the Iron Horse Society.   The Iron Horse Society is an annual giving club for individuals who have demonstrated leadership in giving with a net gift of $1,000 or more in one fiscal year.   Members of this exclusive annual giving club are awarded a commemorative pin that signifies their continuous commitment to the ALS Association of Georgia and the fight against ALS.

Thank you to our 2009 Iron Horse Society Members!
